Free money for Single Parents?

by admin on March 25, 2011

Debt can be a very stressful thing.  It can also consume your whole life and think that can never be a way out of this.  If you are a single father (dad) or any single parents it can make the situation even worse because you have a family that is counting on you.  There are a lot of scams out there that try and prey on people with debt but, there are some instances where you can get some free money that is not a scam.  It has helped a bunch of single parents get the financial help and/or the financial assistance they have needed to help get them some more secure financial footing.  We have provided some examples of places that you can try and seek out some the financial assistance you have been in need of.

Rental Assistance is a good way to get some financial help for your lease agreement but, there are some requirements that you need to meet in order to qualify.  Your local department of human services should have some information for you in order to get started.  HUD and Section 8 housing are other examples of programs that can help you with your rent.
Utility companies have a fund available to help people in need of some financial assistance.  It is set up for people whom are having a hard time paying for utilities but, just can’t catch up.  These are usually a onetime only use though so make sure you understand the rules.
Depending on your local area, there may be some local aid groups that would be willing to help out a single dad (father) or a single parents looking for some financial help.  These groups may be based out of a church or the VFW.  They may be able to provide you with some financial assistance with your car, fuel, medical expenses, or other things that you might not be able to take care of without help.
Now this might not come as a shock but, one of the best ways for some free money is to go back to school.  Single dads (fathers) or single parents can qualify for grants and scholarships.  This might even be a way to end up with more money than it costs to pay for the classes so you can use the extra money to try and get ahead of your expenses.
You also have the option to get some assistance with food and clothing.  It may not be cash in hand but, it can help you divert money that you would have spent on food and clothing and send it to some bills that may be overdue and some daycare expenses.  Try and visit your local food banks and thrift stores to try and get the best prices for things.  Angel food ministries can also be a great source for help.
Finally, if your debt amount is more than you can handle because of student loans or any other types of government funds, they may have some hardship assistance.  Look into the guidelines of these programs to see if they exist.  There could be a chance to get your entire debt written off but, keep in mind that you will take a huge hit on your credit for it.  They may also have some payment plans or be able to defer your payments until you are on your feet again.

In closing, there are some free money opportunities put there that are not scams.  You just have to be aware that scammers tend to prey on people whom are in need of financial help or financial assistance.  They also try to target single fathers (dads) and single parents because they feel that single parents are preoccupied and therefore don’t read the fine print.
